Jones Duo of Eight Belles, Proud Spell Work At Keeneland

AWESOME CHIC – Aurora Springs Stable’s Awesome Chic, winner of the Florida Oaks (GIII) in her most recent start, jogged two miles before the renovation break Sunday morning at Churchill Downs under Ariel Carrasquillo.
Trained by Rafael Ramos, Awesome Chic worked six furlongs in 1:16 at Churchill Downs on Friday.
BSHARPSONATA – Cloverleaf Farm’s Bsharpsonata, runner-up in the Ashland (GI) in her most recent start, galloped two miles before the renovation break under Scott Miller.
John Salzman, who is overseeing the filly’s preparations here for his son Tim, said Bsharpsonata would “probably work five-eighths and gallop out three-quarters” on Wednesday with regular rider Eric Camacho scheduled to come in for the work.
EIGHT BELLES/PROUD SPELL – Trainer Larry Jones’ two Kentucky Oaks hopefuls, Eight Belles and Proud Spell, turned in half-mile works Sunday morning over the Polytrack surface at Keeneland.
Fox Hill Farms’ Eight Belles covered the distance in :46.60, second fastest of 39 at the distance. Proud Spell, owned by Brereton Jones, was timed in :50.20, which ranked as the 28th best at the distance.
The trainer, a native of Hopkinsville, Ky., plans to ship the two fillies to Churchill Downs on Friday with five-eighths mile works slated for both next Sunday.
GOLDEN DOC A – Ron McCauley’s Golden Doc A got her first trip over the Churchill Downs racing surface Sunday morning as she galloped a mile and a half under Ariel Carrasquillo.
Trained by Barry Abrams, Golden Doc A shipped to Churchill Downs on Saturday from Keeneland, where she had finished second in the Stonerside Beaumont (GII) on April 10.
Golden Doc A is scheduled to work a half-mile Wednesday morning with jockey Kent Desormeaux aboard for the move.
PURE CLAN – IEAH Stable, Lewis Lakin and Pegasus Holding Group Stables’ Pure Clan walked the shedrow at Barn 32 on Sunday morning, a day after working a half-mile in :49.60 under regular exercise rider Steve Schmelzel.
Trained by Bob Holthus, Pure Clan capped an undefeated two-year-old season by winning the Pocahontas (GIII) and Golden Rod (GII) Stakes at Churchill Downs last fall. Holthus is attending the horse sales in Ocala, Fla., and scheduled to return to Louisville on Wednesday.
