Sent off as the 13-1 longest shot in the five-horse field, Zayat Stables' SHERINE (Precise End) took command soon after the start and never gave her foes hope in the stretch when drawing clear by two lengths in the $147,000 Comely S. (G2) at Aqueduct on Saturday. The dark bay filly broke well and was pressed early by 2-1 second choice Lady Chace (Tiznow), with the duo setting splits of :22 4/5 and :46 2/5 for the opening four panels. Approaching the final turn, Sherine began to separate from Lady Chace and was 1 1/2 lengths clear at the six-furlong mark under Alan Garcia, getting three-quarters in 1:11 1/5. From there it was over, as no one got close to the Anthony Dutrow charge late as she completed the one-mile test in 1:37 1/5. The winning mutuels were $28.60, $9.40 and $3.40.

Ready for Fortune (More Than Ready) missed the break but soon got into the race and closed well on the inside to grab the place spot at 6-1. The runner-up paid $5.90 and $2.90 while completing the $99.50 exacta. Elusive Lady (Van Nistelrooy) was one-paced in the latter stages but still finished a neck in front of 7-5 choice Zaftig (Gone West) for the show. The nearly 3-1 third choice paid $2.90 and capped the $334.50 trifecta. Zaftig and Lady Chace completed the field, with Love Co (Not for Love) scratched.

Sherine captured her second stakes race, following a facile triumph in the East View S. versus state-bred foes two prior, and improved her line to 8-4-0-2, $220,662. The dark bay miss was third in the With Anticipation S. against males in her juvenile campaign.

Bred in the Empire State by Sez Who Thoroughbreds, the winner attracted a bid of $85,000 at the 2007 OBS February Two-Year-Olds in Training sale. She is out of the unraced Willa Dear (Red Ransom) and counts an unnamed two-year-old by Friends Lake as a half-sister, an an unnamed 2008 colt by Forest Danger as a half-brother.
