Pedigree
Pure Clan is by Pure Prize, whose biggest victory came in the Kentucky Cup Classic (G2) over nine furlongs. Classically bred, being by Storm Cat out of champion three-year-old filly Heavenly Prize, Pure Prize is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Good Reward, and he hails from the family of Grade 1 winners Dancing Spree and Oh What a Windfall. Pure Prize has made a solid start to his young stallion career with eight stakes winners from his first two crops. In addition to Pure Clan, he's also sired Birdbirdistheword, winner of the lucrative Delta Jackpot (G3), and early indications are that Pure Prize's offspring should handle the 1 1/8-mile distance of the Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Pure Clan comes from a solid female family. She's out of Gather the Clan (Ire), who won the Violet H. (G3) at 1 1/16 miles on the turf and is also the dam of six other winners, including Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) victor Greater Good. While Gather the Clan is out of the 1977 champion sprinter What a Summer, stamina was added to the pedigree when she was matched with 1979 Travers S. (G1) winner and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up General Assembly, who was by Secretariat.
With plenty of stamina coming from both sides of her pedigree, the Kentucky Oaks trip should be well within Pure Clan's grasp.
