She Put A Spell On Them

Proud Spell made it look easy, didn’t she?

The 134th Kentucky Oaks is in the books. Brereton Jones’ filly Proud Spell romped in the mud, much like Rags to Riches last year. Now Larry Jones will try to sweep the Oaks-Derby double with a set of ladies, as Eight Belles goes in the Derby tomorrow.

Things always look clear after the race, and this win is no exception. Proud Spell really did appear to be the classiest of this bunch, and she ran like it. She ended up being favored when all was said and done, but when they will like that, any price seems like a steal.

It’s a shame that the weather did not cooperate today. I heard the attendance was 100,000ish, but you wouldn’t have known it to look at the 1st floor of the clubhouse once the sky opened up. It’s still pouring rain as I write this.

Until next year, Oaks fans.
