Toby Callet

Toby Callet has been a professional handicapper for more than 30 years. His web site, tobycallet.com, features key plays at tracks in Florida, Kentucky, California and Louisiana. A 51-year-old native of Pittsburgh who now lives in Wellington, Florida, Callet bet his first race at Waterford Park (now known as Mountaineer) in 1968 and since then has been involved with the sport in a variety of roles. Washington Post columnist Andrew Beyer described him as “the hardest working professional in the game.”

Callet is the co-creator and author of The Florida Handicapper’s Sheet since its inception 12 years ago. He has been the Ragozin Sheets’ observer at Florida racetracks since the mid-1990s. He’s also been the two-year-old pedigree analyst at Calder Race Course for the last nine seasons and posts selections for juvenile races featured on calderracecourse.com. He’s conducted seminars at racetracks from coast to coast and has been a featured guest on Fox SportsNet Pittsburgh as well as numerous radio shows. In 1998 he gave out a $48 play in The Breeders’ Cup Pick Six that returned $34,706.

Callet is a professional clocker, too. His analysis of Kentucky Derby contenders’ workouts has appeared in the Louisville Courier-Journal among other notable publications. He was integral in assisting Gulfstream Park correct 79 mistimed races in 1999. He has clocked horses at Palm Meadows, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, and Del Mar over the past decade.

A couple of Callet’s most spectacular accomplishments are his unmatched performance while showing a positive return on investment (R.O.I.) in each of the past 12 seasons at the always difficult Gulfstream Park meeting. His 2005 spring Keeneland meet record of 74 top selection winners from 150 races was documented by Keeneland Race Course as well as Today’s Racing Digest who also carries his selections!!
