Dates For Kentucky Oaks Future Wager Pools Set

Monday, February 05, 2007

Churchill Downs has established dates for the trio of four-day wagering pools that will make up the 2007 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (“KDFW”) and Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (“KOFW”).

The three pools for the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which will enter its ninth year in 2007, and the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, which will mark its fourth year, will again run concurrently. The dates for the 2007 KDFW and KOFW pools are:

Pool 1 – February 8-11

Pool 2 – March 8-11

Pool 3 – April 12-15

Wagering in the respective Thursday-Sunday pools will open daily at noon (all times Eastern). Each of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools is scheduled to close at 6 p.m. on Sunday, while the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager pools will close a half-hour later at 6:30 p.m.

The Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Future Wagers are minimum $2 wagers and are win bets only. The wagers offer racing fans the opportunity to bet on Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks contenders at odds that could be greater than those they would receive on the day of each race. There are no refunds in either the KDFW or KOFW.

Winning payouts in all Kentucky Derby and Oaks Future Wager pools are based on the odds that are in place on each wagering interest at the conclusion of each respective pool.

Each pool of the Derby and Oaks Future Wagers features 24 betting interests that include 23 individual horses. The 24th wagering interest for the Derby Future Wager is a mutuel field that includes all other 3-year-olds. The final betting interest in the Oaks Future Wager is a mutuel field that includes all other 3-year-old fillies.

The 133rd running of the $2 million guaranteed Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, at Churchill Downs. The $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks, which will also be run for 133rd time in 2007, is set for Friday, May 4.

A total of $1,471,606 was wagered during the three Kentucky Derby Future Wager pools in 2006 – the third highest betting total in its history. Betting in the 2006 Oaks Future pools totaled $171,814, that wager’s second largest total since it moved to a three-pool format in 2004.
