Christmas Kid heads an evenly matched field of eight for Saturday's 37th running of the $150,000 Bonnie Miss (GII) at Gulfstream Park.
Owned by Edward Evans and trained by James Jerkins, Christmas Kid was last seen as the powerful winner of the Davona Dale (GII). That race was her first start on the main track after three successive starts over the turf course. The surface switch proved successful as she took the Davona Dale by four lengths over a field that included High Again, Lisa M., and Naseem, all of which are back to take on the streaking filly again. Christmas Kid is 2-for-2 this season having also won the Tropical Park Oaks on the turf.
The most daunting new rival for Christmas Kid may be Lost Etiquette, who broke her maiden in her second career start last time out at Gulfstream going 1 1/8-miles. The filly had not started since last fall before that effort and makes her stakes debut today.
Another filly exiting the maiden ranks into graded competition for the first time is Fee Fi Fo Fum, trained by James Jerkens who also trains the favorite Christmas Kid. Fee Fi Fo Fum broke her maiden at first asking going 1 1/8-miles over the turf course in early February. She has been working well on the main track in advance of her first race over the surface.
Davona Dale runner-up and third place finishers High Again and Lisa M. are also back to take on Christmas Kid again, along with Davona Dale fifth-place finisher Naseem. Miss Tizzynow and Swift Temper round out the field.
