She has lost her first two races of 2007, but Frank Calabrese's champion filly Dreaming of Anna remained the favorite among racing fans across North America at the midway point of four days of betting in Pool 2 of Churchill Downs' 2007 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager ("KOFW").
Dreaming of Anna, the winner of the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (GI) and the champion 2-year-old filly of 2006, stood as the 5-1 favorite among Pool 2's 24 wagering interests when betting drew to a close on Friday evening. She held a narrow edge over Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor's Rags to Riches, winner of the Las Virgenes (GI) at Santa Anita and the morning line favorite in KDFW Pool 2, and the mutuel field, the betting interest that includes all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual horses included in the pool's betting roster. Both wagering interests closed Friday's betting at 6-1.
The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager, which is now in its fifth year, allows racing fans to wager on contenders for the Kentucky Oaks (GI) at odds that could be significantly better than those they would receive on the day of the race. The wager is a $2 minimum bet and a win wager only. There are no refunds in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager and winning payouts on the day of the race will be based on the odds that are in place at the conclusion of each respective KOFW pool.
Total wagering on KOFW Pool 2 stood at $9,474 after two days of the four-day pool. Betting on the second of three pools in the 2007 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager is scheduled to resume at noon (all times Eastern) on Saturday, March 10. Wagering on the pool will conclude on Sunday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m., which follows the conclusion of betting in the accompanying Kentucky Derby Future Wager by 30 minutes.
Another filly that continued to attract strong support in Pool 2 of the Oaks Future bet included Phipps Stable's Boca Grande (8-1), who is set to make her 3-year-old debut on Saturday in the $150,000 Forward Gal (GII) at Gulfstream Park. Starlight Stable and Donald Lucarelli's Octave, runner-up to Dreaming of Anna in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, ended the day's betting at 10-1. The Todd Pletcher-trained filly will make her 2007 debut in Saturday's $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks (GII).
The third and final pool of the 2007 Kentucky Oaks Future wager is set for April 12-15. Information on the Kentucky Oaks and real time odds on the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager can be found at www.kentuckyoaks.com, the official event Web site.
