SOUTHEAST/AUDACIOUS CHLOE UPSETS CHAMP DREAMING OF ANNA - The unbeaten record of reigning juvenile filly champion Dreaming of Anna was already history, and now her record on grass has its first blemish.
Team Valor Stables and Never Tell Farm's Audacious Chloe rallied from just off the pace under John Velazquez to wear down Dreaming of Anna in deep stretch and emerge with a half-length victory in Sunday's $75,000 Gaily Gaily Stakes on the turf at Gulfstream Park.
The Todd Pletcher-trained daughter of More Than Ready notched her third win in six career starts. She covered 1 1/16 miles on "firm" footing in 1:41.60.
The setback was the second in as many starts in 2007 for Frank Calabrese's homebred Dreaming of Anna, the odds-on favorite who was unbeaten in a four-race campaign at two that culminated in a victory in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (Grade I) at Churchill Downs. She finished third to Dream Rush in the Old Hat (GIII) on the main track at Gulfstream in her season debut.
EAST/OLIVINE UPSETS IN BUSHER - William Punk Jr. and Philip Deleo's Olivine, the longest shot in a field of six, jumped to the lead at the start and increased her advantage for a five-length victory in Saturday's $65,000 Busher Stakes on the Inner Track at Aqueduct.
Olivine, a David Donk-trained daughter of Royal Academy ridden by Chuck Lopez, completed the 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:44.76 over the "fast" Inner Track surface. Busanda Stakes winner Sagamoon finished second, while the favored Margies Smile was last.
MIDWEST/OUR DANCING BABE RALLIES TO TAKE VALDALE - David Ross' Our Dancing Babe rallied from last in a field of 11 to take Saturday's $50,000 Valdale Stakes at Turfway Park.
Alonso Quinonez was aboard the winner, a daughter of Belong to Me who notched her third consecutive victory for trainer Daniel "Speedy" Smithwick. Pacesetter Bavarian Belle, who held a five-length lead at one point, finished second under Julien Leparoux. Miss A. Bomb held on for third, while favored Miss Taro finished eighth.
Our Dancing Babe completed the one-mile distance over Polytrack in 1:38.98.
CENTRAL/OCTAVE TO FAIR GROUNDS OAKS - Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (GI) runner-up Octave will make her 3-year-old debut for trainer Todd Pletcher in the Fair Grounds Oaks (GII) on March 10. Pletcher told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that Cotton Blossom, third in the Juvenile Fillies, could also run in the $400,000 race.
