Tough Trip

Friday, May 04, 2007

It's doubtful anyone could have beaten Rags To Riches on this day, but Edgar Prado sure had a heck of an excuse aboard Cotton Blossom.

Prado was in perfect position turning for home, with a clear shot on the rail and dead aim on the leaders.  Then Dreaming Of Anna made a left turn at the top of the stretch, and Cotton Blossom was shut off.  Edgar took up fast, and Cotton Blosson was done. "I was right there turning for home, and then.......".

And then Rags To Riches was gone.

Hats off to the winner.  She's clearly exceptional.

On a side note, one of my favorite parts of this sport is watching jockeys celebrate after a big win.  Garret Gomez certainly showed his excitement as "Rags" crossed the wire, pumping his fist in the air and screaming in joy at the crowd.

I love when the horse I bet to win and key in all of my bets is eliminated by a horse that does not belong in the race. I had $35 to win on Cotton Blossom and used her with Octave and Rags to Riches in a trifecta. If she gets through on the rail she would have at worst been third, at best might have won. Either way Dreaming of Anna, a horse that had no business in this race, ruined my chances. How was there no inquiry or DQ? I know both finished far back but DoA should have been placed behind CB. Lets hope the same thing does not happen in the Derby. Maybe it is time to rethink the selection process for both races.
