Did We Learn Anything?

Hey, if Appealing Zophie can get away with a :49 opening half mile in the Kentucky Oaks, I guess now we know she can win it.

All in all, I'm not sure the results of the Grade III Silverbulletbay cleared up very much.  Total ran OK for her first effort around two turns, although Al Stall is going to have to teach her to stay straight down the lane if he wants her to win over a route of ground.  Not that she would have beaten Appealing Zophie anyway, but the constant left-right-left pattern in the final 3/16ths didn't help her cause.  She earned another chance to prove she can go long.

And you can't fault Get Ready Bertie for coming up short.  There aren't many three-year old filles around who can close effectively into a six furlong fraction of 1:13.60.

Hats off to the winner.  I think we will hear a lot more from the top three this Spring.
