Well, Kentucky Oaks Day is finally here and I am excited to be going out to Churchill Downs to be part of a crowd in excess of 100,000 to see a great day of racing.
Here are some thoughts about betting today's card:
There is a Pick Six carryover of over $100,000 and it will go from races 5-10, concluding with the Oaks. It won't be easy as the sequence is dotted with highly-competitive affairs. As of this writing, I haven't decided yet whether or not to put a ticket in but if I do, will go deep in the Oaks using High Heels, Autobahn Girl, Rags to Riches, and High Again with perhaps Tough Tiz's Sis included as well.
Regarding the Pick 3 and/or the Pick 4 into the Oaks, will toss Rags to Riches and take my chances without her and use the other fillies mentioned above.
If I had to be pressed into an official Oaks selection, it would be a tenative vote for Autobahn Girl over High Heels and High Again as I see the race shaping well for those that can come from off of the pace with plenty of speed expected up front.
And on the Oaks undercard in race 9, I think Birdbirdistheword can perform well upon his return to the turf with his main danger being the progressive Distorted Reality.

Justin Dew has been handicapping horses and following the Kentucky Derby trail for 15 years. His Derby Day triumphs include a current streak of three consecutive Derby exactas, including the Giacomo-Closing Argument combination that returned over $9,800 in 2005. His top selection for the 2006 Derby, Bluegrass Cat, ran 2nd but keyed an exacta with Barbaro that returned over $500.
