Dan Shapiro
East Coast

Hello

Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Hi and welcome to the East Coast Kentucky Oaks blog. I’m Dan Shapiro and I’ll be posting here right through the 133rd Kentucky Oaks. I’ll be covering all the action for 3-year-old fillies in New York and the Mid-Atlantic region.

First, a little about me. At 27 years old, I have worked in the racing industry for the last eight years and I think I’m qualified to give you sharp insights and opinions on the East Coast action. I won’t bore you with details (you can read my bio for a good yawn session). But I will tell you that I draw on experience working at Churchill Downs, The Meadowlands, Monmouth Park, Suffolk Downs and Daily Racing Form.

While most of the top fillies are enjoying warmer climates like South Florida and California at this time of year, the East Coast will usually produce a few Oaks hopefuls. The 3-year-old filly action at Aqueduct starts with the Dearly Precious on 2/17, continues with the Busher on 2/25 and goes right through the Comely (GIII) on 4/14 at one mile.

The beauty of blogging is that it’s an interactive experience. I want to hear your comments. Tell me if you agree with me. Tell me if you think I’m a complete idiot. Tell me if there is an issue or a specific horse, trainer or jockey you want me to address. I look forward to hearing from you.
