Happy Oaks Day

Friday, May 04, 2007

Another morning. Another rainy day at The Downs.

And another thing I’ve learned about Louisville: never believe the local weather reports. Earlier in the week, they swore it would be nice today.

At least it’s Oaks Day. At least The Queen is in town.

Just before 10 a.m., I caught the first flash of the Derby odds. Street Sense is favored…at 8-5. Wow. He won’t be anywhere near that by post time, but it’s an early indication that he’ll be the Kentucky Derby 133 betting favorite.

Curlin was 10-1. Wish I could get him at that price. Surprisingly, Scat Daddy was 9-1.

Lots of juicy wagering opportunities on the Churchill card today. There’s a $500,000 guaranteed Pick 4. There’s a $102,304 carryover in the Pick 6.

We’ll start with the track sloppy and the turf yielding.

Good luck. Let’s get handicapping...
