Patrick Biancone is a third generation French trainer and was the champion amateur rider in France in 1973. Served as an assistant to his father Pierre Biancone, then to LeRoy Jolley in the United States. His first major stakes winner was Bikala, winner of the 1981 Prix du Jockey-Club (French Derby) and later named "Horse of the Year" in France. He was hired in 1981 as head trainer for Daniel Wildenstein and has trained for Allen Paulson, Frank Stronach and Michael Tabor. The best horses he has conditioned include All Along, Strawberry Road, Palace Music, Sagace and Triptych. He teamed with Michael Tabor to run horses in the previous three Derbys: Brancusi, Lion Heart, and Spanish Chestnut. |
A native of Panama City, Solis reached national prominence in 1986 as the regular rider of multiple grade one stakes winner Snow Chief. He won his first California riding title in '92 and rode Dare and Go to an upset win over Cigar in the '96 Pacific Classic. He won eight Grade I races in '97 in addition to the George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award. He won his first Breeders' Cup race in 2000 aboard Kona Gold and has ridden the following major stakes winners: Megahertz, Sweet Return, Singletary, Pleasantly Perfect, Kona Gold, and Johar. Based in southern California, Solis has won 20 meet riding titles overall, including six consecutive at his home bases during 1996-97. His 2005 stats showed him earning $9,647,743 from 729 mounts, good for 14th place nationally. He finished second in the Kentucky Derby three out of four years with Captain Bodgit in 1997, Victory Gallop in 1998 and Aptitude in 2000. |
Michael Tabor was the principal shareholder in the Arthur Prince chain of betting shops in the United Kingdom until selling the business in 1996 for $50 million. In 1972, he purchased his first Thoroughbred and 23 years later his Thunder Gulch won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. He has campaigned many runners, such as Galileo and Giant's Causeway, in partnership with Susan Magnier, wife of Coolmore Stud owner John Magnier and daughter of renowned Irish trainer Vincent O'Brien. |
Husband and wife team of David Hanna and Catherine Hudson started their farm some four years ago in Ocala, Florida. Catherine is the daughter of thoroughbred breeder Sally Jackson. Prior to opening Hannahill, she was in the furniture business. Their farm focuses on selling weanlings, and they currently own about 30 mares. The first mare they ever owned was Wild Fit's dam Grannies Feather, also the dam of Fusaichi Rock Star, whom they purchased at a courthouse auction for $500. Hudson owns stallions shares in the Florida based stallions Smooth Jazz and Snuck In. |

Like her full brother Fusaichi Rock Star, Wild Fit was seemingly assured of being a gray horse, as both her sire and dam, Wild Wonder and Grannies Feather, are also both grays. Wild Wonder was a very consistent race horse, hitting the board in 18 of his 20 starts, winning nine times. He won seven stakes events between 6 and 8 ½ furlongs, including the Mervyn LeRoy Handicap (GII) and the Longacres Mile (GIII), when he set a track record of 1:33.20.
Wild Wonder is a son of Wild Again, a definite distance influence sire who won the initial Breeders' Cup Classic (GI) in 1984, and also can trace back to the family of the great Ruffian in his third generation. Our subject filly is Wild Wonder's second stakes winner to date, along with Fusaichi Rock Star, who won the seven furlong San Vincente (GII).
Through her dam, Grannies Feather, Wild Fit is heavily influenced by the Bold Ruler line. That stallion appears three times in her pedigree, all in the fourth generation, but interestingly through three different sons, including Secretariat. Wild Fit is her second foal, and she was unraced. She does come from a family of sprinters, as all nine of her siblings to race were one-turn specialists, and she'll need to prove that she can carry her quality beyond one turn to the Oaks distance of 1 1/8 miles. Her dosage index also indicates that she is bred for shorter distances, so Wild Fit will have to buck her genetics to wear the lilies. However, she just might be good enough to do it.
