Pitts, a long-time Ken McPeek assistant who went out on her own in 2005 when McPeek retired from training, grew up in Monkton, Md., and is the daughter of racing official Clinton P. Pitts Jr. Prior to working for McPeek, Pitts worked for five years for Francis Campitelli, a Maryland based trainer. Pitts has got off to a great start in her young training career. Durban Thunder scored her first stakes victory when he annexed the September 25th Kentucky Cup Turf Dash at Kentucky Downs, then Sweet Talker won Laurel Park's Martha Washington the same day. Sweet Talker would go on to win the Queen Elizabeth II (GI) at Keeneland the following month. |
Guidry, 45, was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. He began riding at age 9 on bush tracks in his home state. He officially began his riding career at the age of 16 at Delta Downs. He rode in Louisiana until 1986, when he shifted his tack to the Illinois circuit, where he was a leading rider multiple times at Hawthorne, Sportsman's Park, and Arlington. He won his 4,000th race in 2000, one of 35 riders to accomplish the feat. In recent years, he has ridden in Kentucky as well as New York and Illinois, as well as a 2004 stint in southern California. He won the 4,000th race of his career on July 1, 2000, at Arlington Park, the 36th rider to reach that plateau. Now has more than 4,700 victories. He has ridden in three Kentucky Derbys: Deputy Warlock (10th in 2000), Balto Star (14th in 2001) and Buzzards Bay (6th in 2005). |

French Park is by Ecton Park, who earned more than $1.5 million on the racetrack. Racin from the ages of two to five, Ecton Park broke his maiden as a juvenile and captured the Super Derby (GI), Jim Dandy (GII), and Risen Star (GIII) at three. He won the William Donald Schaefer Handicap at four and placed in the Pacific Classic (GI) and Stephen Foster (GI). Overall, he won or placed in 11 stakes from 23 starts. Ecton Park is by the Mr. Prospector son Forty Niner, who is becoming a recognized sire of sires, and is out of the Danzig mare Daring Danzig, who also produced another millionaire in the Japanese racehorse Pit Fighter. At the end of 2005, Ecton Park ranked eighth on the first-crop sire list, with 13 winners to his credit from his first crop of 50 foals. He currently stands at Wintergreen Stallion Station in Midway, Kentucky.
French Park hails from the mare Alarming Prospect, a multiple graded stakes placed filly that earned a little over $100,000 in 16 starts. Alarming Prospect is by Darn That Alarm, who was tragically killed in a 2003 barn fire that cost Meadowbrook Farm several of their stallions. Alarming Prospect was primarily a sprinter, as were all of her siblings. However, French Park is inbred 5x4, directly through the tail male line on both sides of her pedigree, to Native Dancer. Considered one of the greatest horses of the 20th century, he lost only once, in the 1953 Kentucky Derby, in 23 starts, and is a noted classic distance sire.
