Oaks Updates

Sunday, April 24th Barn Notes
By: John Asher

IN THE GOLD - Live Oak Plantation's In the Gold, winner of the Stonerside Beaumont (GII) at Keeneland, galloped Saturday morning at Keeneland with exercise rider Jorge Abreu up. Nick Zito, who won the 2003 Kentucky Oaks with Bird Town, trains the daughter of Golden Missile.

RUNWAY MODEL - Naveed Chowhan's winner of the Golden Rod (GII) and Darley Alcibiades (GII) winner Runway Model galloped two miles for trainer Bernard Flint.

SIS CITY - Ashland (GI) and Davona Dale (GII) winner Sis City worked six furlongs after the renovation break as she continued preparations for the Kentucky Oaks. Exercise rider Michelle Nevin was up as the daughter of Slew City Slew covered the distance over a "fast" track in 1:14.40, the third-fastest move of five at the distance.

"I'm happy with things," said trainer Rick Dutrow, who had planned to work the filly Sunday or Monday. "It didn't make a lot of difference which day she worked. I'm happy with the way Michelle said she went. The filly looks good. I could not be sitting much better."

Dutrow said Sis City would walk Monday, jog Tuesday and then gallop up to her next breeze, which would occur on Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

"I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference as far as what day or how fast," Dutrow said. "We just need to get what we got out of her today ... nothing special, just keep her fit and happy."

SUMMERLY - Winchell Thoroughbreds' Summerly, winner of the Fair Grounds Oaks (GII), galloped with exercise rider Carmen Rojas up. Trainer Steve Asmussen said the daughter of Summer Squall could work on Monday.

OAKS NOTES - Assistant trainer Ian Wilkes said that Buckram Oak Farm's Aspen Tree, the Carl Nafzger-trained runner-up in the Stonerside Beaumont (GII), would be pointed toward the $150,000-added La Troienne (GIII) on May 5 rather than the Kentucky Oaks on Friday, May 6.
