In 1989, Churchill Downs opened the infield for Kentucky Oaks Day for the first time, making "Louisville's Day at the Races" even more accessible the average fan.

Part Woodstock, part family reunion, and all fun, the infield at Churchill Downs regularly attracts 80,000 fans for the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby. For many, one visit to the infield is enough to last a lifetime (about all you may see of the races is a cloud of dust and a flash of silks); others come back year after year, graduating from the mudslides and blanket tossing of their youth to family picnics with the little ones.

Whatever the activity, the infield revelry on Oaks Day ranks as one of America's great parties, just behind the infield festivities on Derby Day.
