Ashland Stakes Winner Ashado Arrives At Churchill
By: Oaks Notes Team

ASHADO - Ashland Stakes runner-up Ashado walked the shedrow a day after working 59 2/5 at Keeneland and then shipped over that afternoon.

Trainer Todd Pletcher said John Velazquez would ride Ashado in the Oaks and she would work next either Saturday or Sunday.

CLASS ABOVE/VICTORY U.S.A - Padua Stable's Class Above, winner of the Bourbonette Breeders' Cup at Turfway Park, prepared for a run in the 130th Kentucky Oaks with a strong five furlong work on Monday at Churchill Downs.

The daughter of Quiet American zipped the distance over a "fast" track in :59 under exercise rider Dana Barnes. Baffert said the move was better than it looked because he felt the track, although dry, was a bit deep throughout the breezy, warm morning of training.

"The track was very demanding today - it was dry and deep and then she ran into a headwind," said Baffert. "She went nice - she got a good work out of it. That's a hell of a work on this track today."

Baffert's other Oaks hopeful, Thomas Van Meter II's Stonerside Beaumont (GIII) winner Victory U.S.A., breezed on Sunday and walked under the shedrow on Monday.

HALFBRIDLED - With exercise rider Paul Nilluang up, Halfbridled galloped a mile and a quarter before the renovation break. Trainer Richard Mandella said the Eclipse Award winning filly would work in three or four days, depending on the weather.

LAST SONG - Buckram Oak Farm's Last Song, winner of the Bonnie Miss (GII) at Gulfstream Park and third in the Ashland (GI), walked under the shedrow on Monday following a five-furlong breeze on Sunday. "She's doing good," said trainer Carl Nafzger.

MADCAP ESCAPADE - Bruce Lunsford's unbeaten Madcap Escapade, winner of the Ashland (GI) in her most recent start, galloped 1 ½ miles under exercise rider Lisa Sloan. Trainer Frank Brothers expects to work his filly later in the week.
