Churchill Downs Incorporated Launches Official 2004 Kentucky Oaks Web Site
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2004) - Churchill Downs Incorporated ("CDI" or "Company") (Nasdaq: CHDN) this week launched the official 2004 Kentucky Oaks Web site, www.kentuckyoaks.com, marking the debut of a separate site for the sister race of the Kentucky Derby.
Kentuckyoaks.com gives the fillies equal billing while providing a wide assortment of feature articles, news updates and interactive components that allow visitors to enjoy the most comprehensive coverage of the Friday kickoff event to one of the world's greatest Thoroughbred racing weekends.
"Much like the Oaks event itself, the Kentuckyoaks.com site simply outgrew its position as a sidebar to the Derby site," said Steve Fugitte, vice president of racing information and new media for the Churchill Downs Simulcast Network ("CDSN"). "More than 100,000 guests now attend the Kentucky Oaks race, and this growing fan interest extends to our online Oaks coverage. We've responded by providing Oaks-specific features including handicapping information, archived videos, Web-cam views of the legendary Churchill Downs racetrack and much more."
Handicappers of all skill levels will enjoy features such as streaming video of the horses and trainers hoping to win the "Run for the Lilies," as well as "Top Ten" selections from CDSN handicappers John Asher, Jill Byrne, Fugitte and Lane Gold.
The site's "coverage" portion features snapshots of event contenders, Oaks news, daily updates from around the racetrack and information on the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. The "history" and "experience" sections cover everything from official charts and statistics from past Oaks races to the traditions of the racetrack and event. And like the Derby site, Kentuckyoaks.com provides Web cams that give viewers a live peek inside Churchill Downs and the Oaks Day festivities.
Kentuckyoaks.com is the official Web site of the Kentucky Oaks and is owned and operated by Churchill Downs Incorporated. As one of the world's top races for 3-year-old fillies, the Kentucky Oaks traditionally takes place on the Friday prior to the first Saturday in May. The 130th running of this celebrated event is scheduled for April 30, 2004, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Approximately 100,000 people attend the Oaks in person, with several million tuning in via television and radio worldwide.
Churchill Downs Incorporated, headquartered in Louisville, Ky., owns and operates world-renowned horse racing venues throughout the United States. The Company's racetracks in California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky host 114 graded-stakes events and many of North America's most prestigious races, including the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, Hollywood Gold Cup and Arlington Million. CDI racetracks have hosted nine Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships - more than any other North American racing company. CDI also owns off-track betting facilities and has interests in various telecommunications and racing services companies that support CDI's network of simulcasting and racing operations. CDI trades on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol CHDN and can be found on the Internet at www.churchilldownsincorporated.com.
