| Footnotes
|
ASHADO, under light restraint from early on, raced in behind front-running MADCAP ESCAPADE around the first turn, eased outside of her entering the backstretch to be three wide while patiently handled, was put to a drive approaching the five-sixteenths pole, drifted in for a stride at the furlong pole when strapped right-handed, then, after the rider changed the stick to his left hand, was roused five times to edge clear late. ISLAND SAND, edgy in the gate prior to the start, leaned in after hopping at the break and bumped twice with HOLLYWOOD STORY, was checked lightly and maneuvered in behind horses, saved ground while rallying on the backstretch, split foes four wide approaching the stretch, loomed prominently five wide into the final furlong and was second best. MADCAP ESCAPADE gained the lead soon after the start, angled near the inside, drew well clear while accomplishing rapid early fractions, showed the way into the upper stretch and weakened. VICTORY U. S. A., away in good order, raced within easy striking distance while between rivals four wide, was with the winner while outside that one leaving the backstretch, but was empty when asked in the drive. HOLLYWOOD STORY, bumped twice after the start by ISLAND SAND and checked, raced near the inside into the backstretch, came out four or five wide, raced within striking distance to the stretch but lacked a closing account. A. P. ADVENTURE, outrun early and angled in three wide, moved out six abreast on the backstretch, worked her way to the rail on the far turn, angled three or four wide for the drive but failed to gain in the final furlong. STELLAR JAYNE edged in four wide on the first turn, came out two paths on the backstretch and failed to reach serious contention. HOUSE OF FORTUNE, never far back after moving near the inside, made a mild run midway on the far turn but faltered soon after. LAST SONG wasn't a factor. SILENT SIGHS followed the leaders in a striking position for six furlongs and weakened soon after. CLASS ABOVE bobbled lightly at the start and faded upon going a half. |
