(March 13, 2004) - Madcap Escapade displayed her quick turn of foot for the third race in a row, taking the seven furlong Stonerside Forward Gal Stakes (GII) by 4 3/4 lengths at Gulfstream Park Saturday.

The margin of victory was somewhat deceiving for the daughter of Hennessy, trained by Frank Brothers. Jockey Jerry Bailey repeatedly looked back for competition in the stretch, where she had the lead by about eight lengths. Madcap Escapade broke alertly, and had a 1 1/2 length lead after a 1/4 mile in :21.85 and 1/2 mile in :44.61. Wacky Patty, under jockey Cornelio Velasquez, tried to stay with the eventual winner, but could not keep up and faded around the turn. La Reina closed from fourth to finish second. Frenchglen finished another 2 1/4 lengths back in third.

Madcap Escapade completed the seven furlongs in 1:22.97. Her victory was worth $90,000 to her owner Bruce Lunsford, a Kentucky businessman. The winner paid $2.40, $2.10, and $2.10. La Reina paid $2.20 and $2.10. Frenchglen paid $2.10 to show. The $2 exacta with the favorite paid $4.60.

Irish Melody was scratched.
