A. P. Adventure Weaves Her Way To Victory In Las Virgenes Stakes
By: Mark Hoard

(February 15, 2004) - A. P. Adventure ran her record to a perfect three for three with a half-length victory in the Las Virgenes Stakes (GI) at Santa Anita. The three-year-old daughter of A. P. Indy was making her second start in stakes company, coming off a victory in the Santa Ysabel (GIII) last month.

A. P. Adventure, the $1.10-1 favorite in the field of eight, got off a bit slowly from the second post position, settling in fifth as the field entered the backside. She began advancing through entering the far turn, and continued between horses as the pack tightened up nearing the homestretch. She split rivals near the sixteenth pole, finishing up with urging from jockey Alex Solis. In second was Hollywood Story, winner of the Hollywood Starlet (GI) in her last start. Third, 2 1/2 lengths back, was pacesetter Friendly Michelle, one of two runners trained by Bob Baffert. His other, Class Above was never in the race, winding up a disappointing seventh.

Solis was thrilled with the race, "She's so laid back," Solis said. "She has so much to learn and that's the good thing about it. She's just having fun, playing with these fillies."

Trainer Wally Dollase concurred, "She's a special horse. She's got a fabulous mind and great talent. The Santa Anita Oaks (GI) is an obvious race we're pointing to."

If she does run there, A. P. Adventure would likely meet up with two-year-old champion filly Halfbridled, who trainer Richard Mandella said would be his filly's next start.

A.P. Adventure earned $150,000 for the victory, making her lifetime earnings $241,080. The favorite paid $4.20, $2.60 and $2.40. Hollywood Story returned $2.80 and $2.60. Friendly Michelle's show was $5.00. The $2 exacta was worth $12.00.
