CLASS ABOVE - Satish Sanan's Padua Stable will be seeking a Kentucky Oaks-Kentucky Derby double as it sends this daughter of Quiet American into the Oaks and Quintons Gold Rush into Saturday's 130th Kentucky Derby. Class Above has won three of five races and earned $184,400 and has enjoyed her greatest success in the state of Kentucky. Both of her career stakes wins came at Turfway Park, where she won the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies last fall and this spring's Bourbonette Breeders' Cup. Padua Stable is looking for its first success in the Oaks, but trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Corey Nakatani have already won the race. Baffert, a three-time Kentucky Derby winner, took the 1999 Kentucky Oaks with two-time champion filly Silverbulletday and jockey Corey Nakatani won the race with Lite Light in 1991 and Pike Place Dancer in 1996. Class Above is by Quiet American, winner of the NYRA Mile (G1), where he defeated Breeders’ Cup Sprint Champion Dancing Spree. He is the sire of over 30 stakes winners, including champions Real Quiet, winner of the Kentucky Derby (G1); Hidden Lake, winner of the Beldame Stakes (G1); Warrior Queen, champion three year old filly in Ireland and England; and Allamerican Bertie, winner of the Falls City Handicap (GII) at Churchill Downs. Interestingly, Quiet American is inbred 3x2 to the great Dr. Fager, one of the fastest and most versatile racehorses of all time, whose blood is not often seen in today’s racehorse. Quiet American also hails from the great Mr. Prospector (his paternal grandsire), who sired 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus. Class Above is one of five foals to race from her dam Rainbow Promise. Class Above is the only stakes runner from the group. Rainbow Promised was unraced, but is a half sister to Try Something New, a filly who won earned nearly $500,000, with wins in the Spinster (GI) and Bewitch (GIII) at Keeneland and the Fleur de Lis at Churchill Downs. Class Above's broodmare sire, Known Fact, was champion three-year-old in England in 1980, and the broodmare sire of seventeen stakes winners, including Banshee Breeze, a multiple graded stakes winner who finished second in the Kentucky Oaks. Dosage Index: 5.00
