A.P. ADVENTURE - Robert and Beverly Lewis' lightly raced daughter of 1992 “Horse of the Year,” A.P. Indy, comes into the Kentucky Oaks off a third-place finish to Silent Sighs in the Santa Anita Oaks - her first setback in four career races. She launched her career in late October with a win for trainer Wally Dollase at Santa Anita, but did not return to racing until early this year when she tallied back-to-back wins in the Santa Ysabel (GIII) and Santa Anita Oaks (GI) over the same track. She will be reunited in the Kentucky Oaks with jockey Mike Smith, who was in the saddle for her debut victory. The Lewises have yet to win the Kentucky Oaks, although their Santa Catarina finished second to Bird Town in 2003. Dollase and Smith are looking for their first victories in the race. She has earned $277,080 in her brief career. A. P. Adventure is by Horse of the Year and champion A.P. Indy, a son of 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew and the leading sire in North America in 2003. He sired last year's Horse of the Year Mineshaft, as well as champion Tempura, Grade I winner Golden Missile; millionaire Symboli Indy; Grade I winner Aptitude and Grade II winner Lu Ravi. He also has leading 2004 Derby contender Gradepoint. A 2000 Racing Hall of Fame inductee, A.P. Indy won eight of eleven starts, including the 1992 Belmont (GI) and Breeders' Cup Classic(GI) while on his way to that year's championship honors. He was the morning line favorite for the Kentucky Derby, but was scratched the morning of the race due to a hoof injury. He raced in Will Farish's Lane's End Farm colors, where he also currently stands stud. A.P. Indy also has a very prominent female family. His dam, Weekend Surprise, was a multiple graded stakes winner and produced nine winners as a broodmare, including Summer Squall, winner of the Preakness (GI), Welcome Surprise, winner of the Dogwood (GIII), and stakes placed horses Honor Grades and Weekend In Seattle. A. P. Adventure is by Nataliano, who finished second in her only lifetime start. She has produced five foals, with the subject filly being her only stakes horse. Her sire is the illustrious Fappiano, who's daughters are well documented producers of stakes winners, including the Grade I winning fillies Capote Belle and Storm Song. Nataliano is a half-sister to Super Mario, winner of the Pilgrim Stakes (GII). Dosage Index: 3.00
